My Dictionary is a personal tool to store, organise and manage your vocabulary in English and your mother tongue. Like in an encyclopedia, each word and the English translation can be further explained by an unlimited amount of text, a figure or a picture, and a voice stream. All words, text and media clips are organised in database grids that can be easily edited, updated, sorted and searched. The program's main interface consists of three tabs for 1) Viewing and Searching for Words, 2) Adding and Changing Words, 3) Adding and Changing Categories (max. of 3 catagories). When using the program for the first time, a user starts normally with the 3rd tab entering categories of her/his own choice. Further categories can be also added later. Then a user would go to the 2nd tab to enter and edit words. Here each word and the English translation can be further explained by an unlimited amount of text, a figure or picture, and a voice stream. These objects are NOT stored in the database to guarantee maximum performance. Only file and path names of objects are stored in the database. The program uses a MS Access database that is open and NOT password protected so that a user is able to ex- and import data as wanted. A backup of the latest database file is automatically created in the program's root directory each time the program starts. Its name has the following format: `Date` `Time` `BackUp Dictionary.mdb`. Searching for words under the 1st tab can be done in two ways. A click on a column header sorts the database grid in the alphabetical order of that column. Or after entering some text in a search box, the pointer of the database grid jumps to the first occurence of this text. For refined searches different categories can be selected. An example database for English / Turkish can be found in the example folder of the program's root directory. It can be opened by clicking on `File/Open`. Other File commands are `File/New`, `../Save` and `../Properties. |

Word Sorter is a handy little tool that enables the user to extract a word list from any given text. The list can be extracted alphabetically, showing each case of the word found in the text, or by word frequency, beginning with the least, and ending with the most used word. There is also an option to show just how many times each word is used. Word lists have always been wonderful tools for educational purposes. Wouldn't it be nice to create your own word list from your own choice of text. This would be especially useful to homeschoolers and tutors. There are dozens of other educational applications as well, but it's not just for education, it can also be a practical tool for writers. It can greatly assist in creating glossaries or an index, or allow writers to see if they're being too redundant with particular words. Just as there are for education, there are many more applications for writers. Education and writing are wonderful reasons to use word lists, but we also want to have fun. Word Sorter is an invaluable tool for word games. If you know a word exists for those extra points, and you know where it is, but can't pinpoint it, just use Word Sorter to find it for you and win the game. The list of applications for Word Sorter goes on and on. Whether it's for education, writing, playing games, or whatever you may need a word list for, Wlord Sorter is the tool for you. |

Abe Lingo Vocabulary Studio (ALVS) is a very special vocabulary builder application. What makes it unique is the way it handles words in your vocabulary, the way it can find new words to put therein, and the way it will let you revise already known words. Some Features: * Vocabularies or parts thereof can easily be shared among users. * ALVS guarantees that your comprehension of a given language will increase in the quickest possible way. (By simply giving you the opportunity to learn the most common words first.) * ALVS will easily find words that are typical for a specific field so that you can understand people in that field in the quickest possible way - even though the particular words themselves may be uncommon. * Exercising new words and revising old ones is painless. In addition to "regular training aids", such as the flash card and the spelling module, ALVS ships with an auto flash feature and a very useful screen saver. * ALVS comes with a powerful Text Laboratory which, to say the least, is very useful when analyzing texts in the language you are studying. * Exposure to words you currently are working on is made hassle free with the Word Safari Plugin for Internet Explorer 5.5 or later. Words on web pages you visit will be highlighted if they are in your "working vocabulary". Then simply moving your mouse cursor over a highlighted word will make your translation pop up. * ALVS ships with a ready to use language data base which holds the scopes (measurements of commonness) for the most common words in English, French, German and Spanish. In addition the DB also holds beginner vocabularies arranged by part of speech type for the following pairs of languages: English-French, French-English, English-German, German-English, English-Spanish and Spanish-English. The DB is extendable with up to two new user defined languages. (Beginner vocabularies contains about 2,000 words per language pair.) |
